Andy Ho, CIO of VinaCapital, passes away

VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund (VOF) and its manager, VinaCapital Investment Management have announced that Andy Ho, VinaCapital’s Chief Investment Officer, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of 6 June. Andy (pictured) had been with VinaCapital for some 17 years, having first joined VinaCapital in 2007. Previously he was director of investment at Prudential Vietnam, having also held a number of positions at Dell Ventures and Ernst & Young.

Don Lam, CEO and Founding Partner of VinaCapital, said: “Andy has been my trusted business partner since 2007, and he has been instrumental in the growth of the Company and VinaCapital as a whole. More importantly, he has been a close friend who will be missed by me and everyone at VinaCapital. I am devastated by this loss. My deepest condolences are with his wife, family and loved ones.”

Huw Evans, Chairman of VOF, added: “Andy was instrumental in the founding of VOF and his energy and enthusiasm have been important contributors to the growth of the Company over many years. On behalf of the Board I would like to add our condolences to Andy’s family and also to Don Lam and the VInaCapital team who have lost a friend and valued colleague.”

VinaCapital says that it has a succession plan that is being implemented with the full support of the VOF board. Brook Taylor, VinaCapital’s CEO of Asset Management, will step in as interim leader of the VOF team alongside co-managers Khanh Vu and Dieu Phuong Nguyen Thi, deputy managing directors of VinaCapital.
