Back in the early 1990s, you knew where you were with your business software. Everything had the same battleship grey aesthetic, sure, but if you knew how to save a file in Excel, you knew how to save one in Word. And if you knew how to save one in a Windows application, you knew how to do it in any other software. It wasn't pleasing to look at, but it was consistent. In the late 90s, the rise of the web brought a more vibrant, chaotic approach.
