If you weren’t a fund manager, what job would you do?
I have really enjoyed going in to a couple of universities to talk about value investing so maybe a university lecturer.
What was the proudest moment of your career?
Now. By sticking to our value investing discipline through some really difficult times, we have been able to deliver some very attractive returns for our investors over the long run.
What was the most difficult moment of your career and why?
Now. We think there are some incredible bargains to be had in the UK equity market and yet investors continue to sell the market to chase US technology companies ever higher.

What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
In the choice between salary and working with someone that you admire and can learn from, the latter wins every time.
Away from the workplace, how do you spend your time?
At the age of 58, I have started to learn the piano and am really enjoying it.
Tell us about the last book you read or the last podcast you listened to?
‘Racing Through The Dark’ by David Millar. Inspirational story of a professional cyclist who succumbed to the pressure to take performance enhancing drugs, was caught and then made a comeback as a clean athlete.
Where was the last place you went on holiday and why?
St Davids in Pembrokeshire because of the beautiful beaches and coastline.
In your personal life, what would you like to achieve in the next 12 months?
To finally achieve that perfect balance of health, wealth and happiness!
