Almost one in five (18.8%) searches on the Square Mile Academy of Funds focused on capital preservation in Q4 2024, signalling a trend reversal that suggests advisers are considering more defensive positioning.
Prior to Q4, research into capital preservation strategies had declined quarter-on-quarter over the course of the year. Searches for funds with this objective were up by 12.2 percentage points, rising from just 6.6% in Q3. Capital allocation and income retained the top outcomes spots by searches, at 39.6% and 37.5% respectively. However, their overall share dropped from 45.9% and 42.6%, according to Square Mile's quarterly Market Intelligence Report.
