There’s a saying that goes, ‘when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me’.

PA's top story this week serves as a cautionary tale on making assumptions when communicating with third-party providers. A financial planning firm has been smashed with a six-figure Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) payout order, and not over the quality of its advice. Instead, the business had been involved in a mix up with a third-party over a missing and critical piece of paperwork. The result was a long-winded "nightmare" for the business and its client.
